H O N G  K O N G    CITY OF SKYSCRAPERS

HONG KONG – THE SKYSCRAPPER CITY
Fasten your seats and get ready to land in
I have been several times to Hong Kong. Hong Kong is a crowded city with good transportation, sights and sounds. The hotels are expansive and so the food. But it has many tourist destinations and of course the shopping. Hong Kong has many theme parks and the famous Disney Land. This is also the gateway to get into inner China. It borders Shenzhen and Macau. For whatever reason you come here, you have everything to sooth and satisfy.

Landing at the Hong Kong Airport itself is fascinating. The aircraft roars in one of the most exciting yet scary landings in the world, only next to the landing in Pokhara-Nepal, I had.

On the starboard side skyscrapers seem to float up right out of sea.  It was both astonishing as well as chilling.

The transportation is simply superb. Even if you are heading to Macau or Shenzhen, you can check in your luggage from the departure airport and collect it at the ferry terminal at both the destinations.

You have to plan your itinerary in advance for there are a lot of things to do and see here. Hong Kong is a shopping paradise to hunt from the low-end to the high-end goods and you can get almost anything here. I stayed at Intercontinental close to Avenue of Stars in Tsim Tsa Tsui. It was close to many shopping areas and the scene from the hotel was really fantastic.

There are few places worth visiting. Ladies Street and Fa Yuen Street are all at Mongkok. Don't be confused with the both. Ladies Street is much like our Chinatown, selling touristy and many imitations. Fa Yuen Street has more shops selling trendy apparels.

The furnishing of Kwai Chung Plaza reminds me of MBK in Bangkok. They sell all sorts of things from food to HP accessories to apparel. Except that the apparels sold here are trendy, unlike those touristy t-shirts sold at MBK.
Stayed in Novotel  City Gate Hong Kong on the first day

Citygate Shopping Mall is filled with outlet stores and is the place to go if you want to buy branded goods.

The shopkeepers will always quote a marked-up price, especially for tourists but use your skill to bargain. Even if you are not a shopaholic, it is fun to just take a stroll down the stalls and all that they have to offer. You can get from little accessories to mobile casings, from an insane amount of counterfeit commodity to unbelievable ranges of sex costumes. So, there is something for all ages.
Locals also flock to Causeway Bay for a more sophisticated shopping experience. Generally a more expensive area, Causeway Bay is home to the famous Times Square and Sogo. You may also find shopping malls like Island Beverly, where local designers congregate to offer alternative fashion options, and less expensive mainstream fashion at random zones

Another interesting place to go is Tsim Sha Tsui. The Harbour City – A large shopping mall where international and local brands congregate. You may find fashion giants side by side here.

No matter what time of the day, the MTR’s and the streets are always packed with people. I love walking around this city at night because everything is lit up and I actually feel safe except maybe in Mongkok where the crowd is literally a wave of people that sweeps you off your feet. Believe me, the streets are the best place to feel the pulse of the city. It raps and thumps like a beat that demands attention, and you can’t help but go along with it.

There are many places of interest in Hong Kong. If you want to get fabulous, mind-boggling views of this beautiful modern city, make your way to the Victoria Peak. If you have gone up Penang Hill by the funicular train, then it will not amaze you to take the tram up here.

But, the peak offers stunning panoramic views of Hong Kong and leaves you mesmerized. It was really a day wasted, as I had to wait in a long queue to ascend and descend. Anyway, I was rewarded when I was at the peak to a breathtaking view.

Ocean Park is one of the world's acclaimed educational theme parks and tops the itinerary of many visitors to Hong Kong. Ocean Park, features a diverse selection of world-class marine attractions, thrill rides and shows.

It was my first eye-to-eye contact with Pandas. They were so cute lovable animals lazing and eating bamboo shoots.

The dolphin show is  a top attraction and you will be close to South Pole here to see Penguins and also seals.

Cable Car is a great way to travel between the Waterfront and Summit. With Ocean Park attractions located on two different sides of a mountain and wide swaths of sea in between, riding the Cable Car provides unprecedented views of the surrounding area, the sea, and the entire park.

Enter the Dragon – They say no one survives its wrath! Like its legendary namesake, nothing else twists and turns in Ocean Park more than this steel monster. With corkscrews and full 360° rotations to tear through at the speed of a hurricane, this attraction is a thrill seeker's dream! No one escapes without the fright of their lives! Are you brave enough for the ultimate Hong Kong roller coaster experience? The Dragon beckons!

A hot air balloon ride is a perfect ending to Ocean Park. You will feast your eyes to a scene you will be treasuring forever .

I have been to both the Anaheim and Hong Kong Disneyland. At the outset, let me say that for children, Disneyland HK, as with any Disneyland franchise, would be such a big hit! It would be FUN and EXCITING for them!

Having said that, for an adult who has been to the US Disneyland theme parks several times. From my hotel, I took a bus to the entrance.

HK Disneyland pales in comparison. It is a lot smaller; with just a few rides and food choices. However, that would have been ok with me. What I didn't like is how HK Disneyland has seemed to go too commercial. There are more stores than there are rides and areas of interest. But anyway it is a good experience mostly with a different crow compared to Anaheim.

I walked around without any fun as I feel it is only suitable for children.

Disneyland Hong Kong

Don’t miss the parade. It is indeed very colourful and choose the right spot in advance to see and capture the fun and colours.

I chose to stay at the Disney Hotel. It was nothing great except the theme of the room in Disney characters and the price is actually steep. My reason for choosing was to see the fireworks at night. Actually, the hotel is isolated and the only good thing is about its nearness to the theme park. I feel it is better to stay in another hotel in the town and take a train to the theme park.

Stayed in Disney Hotel for 2 days.
There are a lot of nice spots at the back of the Hollywood hotel overlooking the HK bay. So walk outside the hotel lobby and get farther down --- after the piano-shaped pool.
At the back of the hotel are more picturesque views like those vintage cars, the view of HK bay with tall buildings, etc. So prepare to take photos and do not leave your camera behind.

The hotel was overpriced for the room size and quality. Except for the music & meeting the characters at specified times, there wasn't so much of Disney feel to it.

I loved our room! It was hip, modern, spacious and exuded a friendly feel with all the Mickey icons around. From the service directory folder with Disney newspaper and stationery, to the quilted fabric and carpet and even toiletries, you sure wouldn't be able to forget that you're in the house of Mouse

                                                                 BYE BYE DINEY!

The last day of my trip was at the Intercontinental . This was a perfect hotel with perfect view of Hong Kong Harbour.
Stayed in Inter Continental for 2 days

The Avenue of Stars Hong Kong , is the same as the Hollywood Walk of Fame. but it is dedicated to  famous celebrities of Hong Kong film industry. This is is located along the Victoria  waterfront in Tsim Tsa Tsui. It was intact right in front of  Inter Continental Hotel.

Here you can go for the iconic HK harbour views and a photo with the Bruce Lee statue.

The colourful neon lights dancing on the clam waters of the sea is breathtaking. Don’t miss the light shows here. Arm your self with cameras to capture the delights.

Well for food, Hong Kong is a paradise for many but to me it was a bit out of the track as I always look for halal food.
I was told to go to Chungking Mansion in Nathan Road just a 5 minutes walk from Inter Continental Hotel.

Chungking Mansions features guest houses,  restaurants, African bistros, clothing shops, sari stores, and money changers. It often acts as a large gathering place for some of the ethnic minorities  in Hong Kong, particularly South Asians  Middle Eastern people, Nigerians, Europeans, Americans and many other peoples of the world.

They heat it in the oven and don't get shocked for a plate of Briani is about RM 30.

Plenty of Indian and Pakistani Restaurants and food stalls. Prepared to pay 5 times the price in Malaysia

Tempting capatis

I bought someIndia mangoes…Tempting!!
Don't judge the book by its cover.
Tosai for breakfast.
Took off to Malaysia after 5 days of hectic schedule. There are plenty to shop even at the airport.

I HAD A WONDERFUL TIME IN HONG KONG ( I HAVE VISITED HONG KONG 3 TIMES)

                                               BYE BYE HONG KONG!!!!!
