Singapore is not new to me as Singapore was the first country where I worked after graduating as an aeronautical engineer.

Seletar Airport Singapore.

Today, the Singapore of yesterday has rapidly changed compared to the days when I first hitch hiked to the island republic. Many Malaysians flocked to Singapore for shopping and there was the old Arab Street where Muslim traders found their fortune. The name of this quaint and historical district originates from the Gelam Tree, which once grew abundantly in this historical city for its use in building ships. It is called Kampung Gelam to this day. But the old flavor is lost and it is not as bustling as it used to be.

The traders don’t do business as before and some have abandoned their places, which have given rise to eye sore skyscrapers.

Kampong Glam is a gem of Singapore’s history and culture. An amazing place to experience the hospitality of the Malay people and learn about Muslim customs, this is one of the city’s ethnic quarters that you simply should not miss.

Singapore is small; there is good transportation and communication. There are many tourist attractions here. The MRT connects the whole city and you can travel in ease and comfort from the time you step out of the airport by MRT to any part of the city.

The place you should not miss is Santosa. This island’s name derives from the Sanskrit word Santosha, which means, happiness, peace and tranquility. Attractions include a 2 km long sheltered beach, Fort Siloso, two golf courses, Resorts World Santosha featuring the theme park Universal Studios Singapore.

Do not miss a cable carried from Santosa to Mt. Faber. It is worth an experience.

Apart from Santosa, the Zoo is a must. It is one of the best in the region housing many species of birds, animals and plants. You can even go for a night safari here.

There’s practically something for every shopper in Singapore. From international brands to uniquely Singaporean products, stretches of world-class shopping malls and outlet stores offer a wide array of choices. You only need to take a walk down one of Singapore’s iconic shopping districts, including popular shopping street Orchard Road, to find out what’s in store for you. One thing’s for sure – you won’t be leaving empty-handed, but with loads of great bargains and gifts. Get ready to shop till you drop!
